--- title: first ten days date: 240110 category: phlog --- ********************************************************************** This is a post to commemorate the first ten days of #dungeon24, the second-year of the, I suppose, annual writing challenge: one room of a dungeon per day, that's it, no other rules. I didn't make it a month last year, my machinations too grandiose, my plans too inflexible. So when I hit a snag and realized the rooms I'd mapped out were not corr- ectly ordered, instead of going back and fixing it, I just stopped. Pretty typical behavior, if I'm being honest. Lots of things have ch- anged since 230110 though. I'm managing my ADHD better, for one. I also don't have the delusion that what I write must turn into an actu- al finished product or anything like that. This year is all fragments of thoughts, ideas rooted in my day, myself the only audience who mat- ters while I'm writing. Down the line, I'm hoping to have some usable concepts, maybe even interrelated rooms that I can cobble together and expand upon. I already like at least a couple of them: title: Room Three date: 240103 category: dungeon24 Hundreds of birds alight from the dead trees in the courtyard at your approach. They weave in and out of the airspace above, dispersing and doubling their numbers in the face of threats of violence. The haze-soaked soil bears no insect nor seed nor fruit, but the blackbirds never leave the grounds. --- title: Room Seven date: 240107 category: dungeon24 The frozen-solid door shatters upon entrance, a blanket of cold unfurling into the halls. Every ice statue within is interconnected, fingers touching shoulders, gloved hands to foreheads, tentative feet to armored shins. All are instantly deadly to the touch. You join the agonizing chain as the ice inches into and along the corridor. More to come, certainly. Follow along if you're so inclined: gopher://zaibatsu.circumlunar.space:70/1/~trunnion/d24 -30-
