I know that I said my grex.org gopher hole would be for
gopher replies, but it just seems silly to reply to a C.S.
post on some other server. So, I'm just going to do whatever
I want. Hope you don't mind.

That said, I have to say congrats to sloum[1]! Having kids
is an amazing adventure that I would recommend to anyone.
There are many, many things to be learned through this, the
oldest of experiences. I wouldn't be the first to declare
that it's not easy, but I'll declare it anyway, just in
case. But, it's awesome.

Speaking of sloum, I want to say thanks for poking around
over at Red Consensus[2], and for being curious about how it
runs[3]. I wish I could claim that it's more interesting
than it really is, but the setup is quite simple. It runs on
a raspberry pi with raspbian lite installed. I added a user,
and made my basic script the shell for that user. The user
has no password. When a person connects via ssh, it runs the
shell program/script, which is a BASIC program. There are
two interpreters that I know of that will work with this
setup: Chipmunk Basic, and Commodore Basic. Others might as
well, but these two support the setup quite well. They
prevent the user from dropping to the interpreter. Since
it's set as the shell, there is no other shell running for
them to drop to. I think... I'm not an expert.

Anyone could set things up in a similar fashion with no
experience. I would only recommend following my instructions
on a system that you aren't concerned about preserving
though, as I haven't really thought them through. I just
wanted to put something moderately unique up on gopher, and
BASIC is what came to mind.
