# Snow

It is Sunday evening. The snow stopped early this morning.
It had been snowing steadily since Tuesday. There was a
blizzard warning for the area on Friday. We've had around
5 ft. of snow. The power has thankfully stayed on through
everything, so our heater has been working.

We went outside today and spent two hours shoveling a very
narrow path from our door, accross the driveway (taking
care to go around the car - which cannot be seen beneath
the snow), and through the berm to the street. It was a
long dig, with walls of up to 6 ft. in a few areas.

We then went on a walk through the neighborhood. The roads
had not been plowed in a day or two, so there was a thick
layer of snow, with really wonky tracks from trucks
trying to get through. A few made it. A few turned back.

The few neighbors we saw were all shoveling. It seems,
according to a few that had lived here all their lives,
that we have not had this much snow in 30 or 40 years.
A "once in a generation" snow.

It has been interesting. Alternately fun and scary. It
is supposed to dump another foot and a half on us over
the next three days starting tonight. After that it
should finally calm down for a spell. I think that after
the snow stops it will be at least a few days - possibly
a week - before we are able to get a car dug out and the
driveway clear enough to get it out... even if the roads
are plowed. I am worried the car wont start after being
buried under so much snow. Worried that our septic system
is freezing and possibly causing problems, that our roof
and deck and shed are all super damaged. I guess we'll
see. Fingers crossed it all works out ok. In the meantime
I am inside playing go fish with my daughter, working on
a transcription/ebook production, working on my websites,
and listening to good music. Oh! and as always: cooking.
