Absence

I have been largely absent from this gopher hole for a spell. After
some interactions I didnt care for I stepped away from the server for
awhile. I still check mail and drop into telem, but mostly have been
focused on my own server (colorfield.space:70). I figured it was time
to pop in here and give a quick update :)

I am moving this coming weekend. My wife is over 7 months pregnant now,
so the move is stressing us both... but better now than in another
month and a half! It was unexpected that we would be moving at all.

I have gotten into the board game family tafl[0] after adding a game in
that family to my server's correspondence gaming system. I have decided
that once I move I want to make a board for home. I am planning on using
a single piece of wood and then burning the board and design elements
into it, then staining it. I want the pieces to be carved bone or maybe
antler. I will likely start on that once we are settled from the move
and hopefully finish before the baby arrives.

I have also started a conlang, though I am in the very early stages. I
have started down this road a few other times, but I am approaching it
in a much more structured and organized way this time. I imagine this
will be an ongoing project for some time that waxes and wanes in my
level of enthusiasm.

I have been trying to code a bit less in my free time and get a little
bit more balance back into my life (other hobbies and such). That said,
a user on my server 'jboverf' has been contributing to my gopher client
Bombadillo[1], which has been much appreciated. He is much more
experienced with Golang than I am, so he has been helping me get in line
with various standards (formatting, better error handling, etc). I think
it is providing a more solid base from which to move forward. Bombadillo
in general has been serving me well as my main gopher client. I recently
learned how to access the alternate screen buffer so as to not have
scrollback (similar to vim/less/etc), which has been pretty cool. It
even fails gracefully if a terminal does not have that feature available.
For example, when using dvtm, I do not seem to be able to access it under
certain circumstances (though not all the time? Gotta figure that one out).

Anyway, time to start the work day in earnest. Be well Circumlunar Space!
