2020-02-26 Tricky Facebook.

I had a Facebook account a long time ago, and a long time ago deleted it. Or, at least I
*thought* I deleted it. It turns out that whatever procedure I followed did not actually
delete the account.

I discovered this recently when I told someone that I do not have a Facebook account,
and they replied that "Yes, you do. I can see you there". So I went to facebook.com
and did the password recovery steps to find that indeed I do still have a Facebook
account.

Only, I couldn't actually reset the password because Facebook wanted to validate my
identity first. It did this by sending an "account recovery code" to my email
address, which I entered back into the Facebook webform. Then Facebook decided that
this was not enough proof of my identity, so it gave me a list of options I could use
to further validate my identity, and the "list of items" had one item: "Ask your
friends for help."

And what does this mean? Well, Facebook shows you a list of people it thinks are your
friends, and you have to allow it to send them each a message requesting that you are
who you say you are.

Sorry, I'm not bugging anyone with that.

Luckily, a second option then appeared for validation. But unluckily, it was "upload
a copy of your photo ID." Considering that one big goal of eliminating my Facebook
account is to remove any food for their profiling and facial regonition engine, this
option is not very palatable.

As much as I clicked around, I could not get the account recovery process to provide
me with any other options to access my account.

So it looks like I am a Facebook user after all.
