Reflections on 2020

I didn't update the reading list because I just haven't felt like reading much lately. I haven't felt much like doing much, to be honest. I'm fine, really, but I decided to write up some thoughts about the Eternal 2020 anyway.

I finished reading The Long Earth and before I jumped into the second book in the series, I found a trove of old mass-market paperback reprints of some comics that I bought about a year ago and then put in a bag and forgot about, so I figured I'd read through them as sort of a brain-cleanser. Updated the reading list accordingly. I also found two NES games in the bag that I forgot that I purchased: Super C and Kabuki Quantum Fighter. So that was a nice bonus

New Year, Same old S...tuff

2021 is here! It looks a whole lot like 2020 so far. That will probably change eventually. I hope. I started a reading list for 2021. I didn't read nearly as many books as I wanted to last year for a variety of reasons that I don't want to go into here. I still bought a bunch, though, because I'm apparently incorrigible.

I also made zmodem.org a landing page for most of my projects so that it's a one-stop shop that I can point people to show how many projects I'm currently ignoring.

Happy (belated) New Year

I haven't started the reading list for 2020 yet, even though I have read a few things. Since around the last time I updated this thing life has been turned upside down for me and a lot of the people around me, which has been sucking up a lot of my time. I did manage eke out a phlog entry, finally, rallying myself to get back into the swing of making things (or at least some facsimile thereof while the dust settles around here, which could take a while). It remains to be seen if I take my own advice, but, hey, you have to start somewhere, right?

Not New Year's Resolutions

Updated the reading list. I know I've been kind of ignoring the phlog lately, and I'm sorry about that. I've been working on the 'tracking my video game' collection website, which kind of turned into a rudimentary content management system, so that's nice, I guess. I also came to a realization over the last few days (though, to be fair, this has been percolating in the back of my head since the beginning of the year) that the Modern Web(tm) is all but a lost cause, and I need to disengage from the worst of it. I lay out my reasoning in a kind of rambly post, but the TL;DR version is that it's not really fun any more, and I'm tired of doing things because I've been doing them for a long time, even though they stopped being fun.

Updated the reading list (again). I know it doesn't really look like it from this angle, but I've been really busy. After that article I wrote about 'just create something great', I started to get the bug to redesign my office into a Classic Game Cave of sorts and maybe go back to one of my old projects that I never really followed through on: making silly videos about video games. I made a couple for Google Video a million years ago, and I made a few for YouTube, but now that I have more resources at my disposal, I figured I might give it another shot. Plus it gives me an excuse to play some of these games that have been piling up over the years.

In July of 2019, the XKCD guy (he's the one that makes stickfigure comics that aren't usually very funny, but get passed around a lot anyway) held a contest for some book that he wrote.

To enter the contest you had to find a bunch of books that you could put in some kind of order such that the titles made a sentence or a story, and whichever one was the 'best' would be the winner and he'd come to your town to promote his book.

I didn't enter, but I thought it was an interesting idea, so I got a few pictures of some books that I thought might fit if I did enter the contest, and posted them here.
