Da> Da> I was just ticked off at the insinuation that the riots don't matter. Yeah, those are _actually_ a really small part of what's happening. Da> DC> The "riots" are due to an extreme minority of people. Da> DC> The vast, vast majority are peacefully protesting. Da> Da> The narrative that the riots are mostly peaceful is part of a Da> misinformation campaign by the press. Placing quotes around the word Da> riots shows you don't question it. The left has turned into what they Da> hate and don't even realize it. What nonsense. Have you been there? Have you seen what's happening? Riots by definition aren't peaceful, but what's _actually_ happening is that, in the vast, vast majority of cases, it's people who are out peacefully protesting, as is their right under the Constitution. Trying to paint _all_ protesters with the "riot" brush is at best misleading and more likely deliberate. I've been to protests and seen the vast bulk of people behaving peacefully and with good intent. A small number sometimes turn up to cause trouble. Yet all the attention is heaped on the relatively small number of trouble makers. Da> I hope that changes. I hope you people on the right wake up and start respecting the rights of the citizenry. Da> While many of the people have been arrested, the cities released them Da> without bail the same evening so they returned to cause mayhem. And if Da> you believe the riots are a small group of people, consider the mass Da> damage these people managed to do. Take a look at all the looting that Da> has been occuring in NYC. I read 900 people were arrested and quickly Da> released in NYC alone. This is not an extreme minority. You'd like to Da> think it's mostly peaceful but some of these large cities are saying Da> that their police force is overwhelmed and asking for military Da> assistance. Peaceful protests don't lose control. The way the NYPD usually works is that, _if_ a protest gets out of hand, they corral a large number of people into an enclosed space, take them into custody, and then process them: the vast bulk are never charged and released immediately. This is simply more efficient than trying to pick the perpetrators out in-situ. I've heard this old saw of "the police feel overwhelmed" many times, and I call shenanigans. The military doesn't exist to cater to the fantasies of right-wing would-be authoritarians. Even Pat Robertson told Trump he's gone too far cracking down on protesters, and now the Generals are coming out and rebuking him publicly. It sure took Mattis long enough, though. So what's it going to be: everyone else is wrong and Trump is right, or the much more likely explanation that Trump's an idiot? Da> My city, Sacramento, has had over fifty small businesses destroyed the Da> last week and it's considered relatively peaceful. in my town, most of Da> the protests, during the day, are peaceful. It's only after dark that Da> the looting occurs. But if you listen to the press, it's only a few. Da> Ridiculous. Is it, though? https://www.facebook.com/AmericasPoliceProblem/videos/334147027232246/ Da> I pay little attention to press sources regardless of political slant. I Da> prefer to view raw feeds without a voiceover explaining what I'm Da> supposed to see. https://twitter.com/arjunsethi81/status/1268966167177289728 https://twitter.com/i/status/1269045893015224320 How much more do you want? Da> Can't help it with the Trump hate. That church was burned down by this Da> very small group of rioters. It was meant to be symbolic but who cares Da> right? You hate Trump and will criticize every little move. No church was burned down. Cite a source if you don't believe me. Trump, on the other hand, cleared peaceful protesters violently so that he could stage a photo-op. The pastor of the church is outraged; pretty sure the pastor would know if the church was vandalized by fire. "Every little move" is what you right-wing people don't get. It's not little when he does these things; it's a gross violation of his office and the Constitution, and it's a violation of the rights of the citizenry in direct opposition to his sworn oath. Now we have police officers from the Bureau of Prisons who aren't wearing identifying insignia and refuse to identify themselves in DC: basically, a secret police. I just want to understand why you people hate the Constitution and the freedoms of this country so much. --- Mystic BBS v1.12 A46 2020/05/28 (Windows/32) * Origin: Agency BBS | Dunedin, New Zealand | agency.bbs.nz (3:770/100)
