Hello Aaron,

>LL>New Zealand has lost only 21 people due to COVID-19.
>LL>The US has lost almost 100,000 people due to COVID-19.
>
>But isn't New Zealand like the size of Rhode Island?

It is not the size of the land mass that matters.
For example, globally the average population density
is 25 people per square kilometer.

The US has a population density of 36.
New Zealand has a population density of 18.

Greenland has a population density of 0.2 per square kilometer,
making it the least dense place on Earth (other than Antarctica).

Now compare those places with Macao, Monaco, Singapore, Hong
Kong, and Gibraltar. Lots and lots of people on very little land.

Some folks might object, claiming that Macao and Hong Kong are
part of China, Monaco is a principality and not even a city much
less a state, and that Gibraltar is just a rock. But Singapore
is a state, even though it is a city, and has population density
of nearly 8,000 people per square kilometer, more than 200 times
as dense as the US, and 2000 times as dense as Australia.

And if you don't think those places qualify as countries, there
is always Bangladesh, which has a population density of 1,252 people
per square kilometer, which is almost three times as dense as India.

So. There you go. Be thankful you live in the USA, which has
a population density of what qualifies as rural in comparison
with those places.
