Chevengur

There is a book I read a few years ago that to this day remains my
favorite. Seeing the recent rise in popularity and interest of all
things soviet, I feel it worthwhile to present the book to the
wandering souls that stumble upon this text file.

The book is called Chevengur by Andrei Platonov. It was written shortly
after the Russian revolution, but didn't find any 'mainstream'
popularity until the late 20th century, having been promptly banned
after its release.

It is a gruesome satirical take on the interwar period, soviet
revolution and the years that followed, from the eyes of a hopeful
young idealist traveling the vast Russian country, looking for the
'real' communism, finally discovering it in the town of Chevengur, where
he and several other idealists establish a commune of what they believe
to be the truest form of freedom.

If one's familiar with Don Quixote, they will surely find similarities
in this incredible work of art.
