2019-08-28 - Ideas and life on CLI
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I think i should start keeping track on the topics i want to write
about. A couple of days ago i had a whole bunch of ideas, but
haven't written them down, and now i cannot remember them. My head
is a sieve apparently.

I am wondering if it would be cool to experiment with using my
computer only in text-mode. So removing the X windowing system
altogether and be forced to work on the CLI only. I am wondering
whether this would be workable for me... Already for a while i don't
start up X anymore as the first thing when i boot my computer, and
instead i try to just remain on the command line to work from tmux.
And i am growing quite fond of this way of computering.

Now i still do a couple of graphics things now and then, like
watching a video file or read a PDF; which both can be done from
within the frame-buffer directly. So switching should be possible
from this perspective. In any case, within X, i already use quite a
simple (and great) window manager in the form of dwm. So i'm not
used to a full-on desktop environment anyways.

I am wondering switching to CLI-only would give an actual practical
advantage, other than my self-imagined nerd-points and a
complementary neck-beard. But somehow this idea has been coming and
going for a while now, and i think it would be a really nice
experiment to try for a while. So maybe i do that, and as a result
improve my command-line skills a bit more.

Maybe the main reason would be to have more focus, and to use the
computer in a more direct way, without getting distracted by all
the graphical fluff, (for example modern web-browsing).

Oh now i remember, i still wanted to write something about modern
web browsing and websites, and the horrible reality that any stupid
website nowadays loads about at least 5 megabytes of useless
scripts and pictures and whatnot. And that there are compilers for
css and JavaScript and this and that. You know, maybe i'll write
about that the next time.

Or maybe i write about that i wanted to maybe build a very simple
digital typewriter/word-processor some time. Simply a laptop-like
device which could only be used for one thing; writing. Hmm, i
think this writing-thing helps me get access to all these little
ideas which are scattered in my brain. Isn't that nice?
