This last weekend was a long one (5 days) for us and we went hiking in Luxembourg. We did the Mullerthal trail (Route 1, 2 and 3) which is really beautiful and well maintained.
One of the big things that made is fun to do was the public transport in Luxembourg. It's free for all and available everywhere. Every little town we passed by on the trail had a bus stop with a bus passing atleast once an hour during the day. It made it easy to just hike until tired and then take the bus back to w\
here we started. It was a really popular method of doing the trail too.

Now aside from all the tourists taking busses it was also extensively used by the locals for short and longer hops. This probably leads to less trafic overall and really showed what free AND decent public transport can achieve.
For example one of the main issues where I live is not per se the cost, but the fact that I need to walk to another town to get a bus, which basically only drives when kids need to go to school and back. Our busses take WAY longer than they should over certain trajectories (a 20min car drive takes more than an hour\
 by bus).

I never took public transport alot, but going to Luxembourg really showed what a difference it could make if a bit more of the tax-money would be invested in it.

Anyway, just my 2 cents.
