Introduction

SlowView is Freeware, which means:  In spite of its name, SlowView is a fast image viewer, supporting numerous image file types. You can customize the program with the Options menu, and rearrange the toolbar icons by drag & drop. It can display images in four modes:
  1. Default Viewer: You can display a supported image format by opening it.
  2. Thumbnails: You can browse the folders of your system, and when you click on an image or filename, SlowView displays it.
  3. Slide Show: When you have selected images, you can make slideshows.
  4. Fullscreen Mode

Installation

  1. Extract the Zip File into the directory of your choice. 
  2. If you want to be able to double-click on a filename in Windows Explorer to view it with SlowView, then you must associate the file types to SlowView. You do this by selecting Utils -> Options from the menu (or press the hotkey "O"), and select the file associations that you want SlowView to open, then click on "Update Registry". 
  3. That's it.

De-Installation

Start SlowView and select Utils -> Options. In File Associations Menu, check "Unselect All" and click on "Update Registry". Exit SlowView and delete all files in the directory that you placed SlowView.exe and the directory itself.

File menu

  • Open: Open the selected image.
  • Save: Save the current image.
  • Reload: Reload the current image.
  • Print: Print the current image based on your printer settings.
  • Print Setup: Lets you set up your printer.
  • Browse: Starts the Thumbnailer. When already in Thumbnailsmode, it closes the Thumbnailer.
  • Batch Conversion: Enables you to convert multiple imagefiles at once into other formats.
  • Catalog Creator: Enables you to create SlowView Catalog Files (*.svc).
  • Minimize: Minimizes the SlowView window to the taskbar.
  • Exit: Close the program.

    Edit menu

  • Copy: Copy the image data to the clipboard.
  • Paste: Paste the image data from the clipboard either as a new image, or if you selected an area, then the image is pasted and scaled to fit this area.
  • Cut: Cut the whole image or selection to the clipboard.
  • Crop: Crop the whole image or selection and displays it. It's basically a Copy and Paste at once.
  • Undo: Restores the image as it looked like before you applied an imagemanipulation to it.

    View menu

  • Show Toolbar: Toggles the toolbar on or off, where you can reach various features by clicking on the corresponding icon.
  • Show Status Bar: Toggles the status bar on or off, which displays the filename, dimension, size, number of order, file date and time, and the loading time.
  • Full Screen: Toggles the view to full screen mode.
  • Image As Tile Map: Repeatedly displays the image, filling the screen.
  • Zoom In: Makes the image bigger.
  • Zoom Out: Makes the image smaller.
  • Actual Size: Displays the image in its original size.
  • Toggle Slide Show: Starts/stops the slideshow as set up in the Viewer tab of the Options panel.
  • Next Image: Loads and displays the next image in the folder.
  • Previous Image: Loads and displays the previous image in the folder.
  • First Image: Loads and displays the first image in the folder.
  • Last Image: Loads and displays the last image in the folder.
  • Random Image: Loads and displays a randomly selected image from the folder.

    Image menu

  • Flip Vertically: The displayed image is mirrored top to bottom.
  • Flip Horizontally: The displayed image is mirrored left to right.
  • Rotate: 900 left: The displayed image is rotated 900 counterclockwise
  • Rotate: 900 right: The displayed image is rotated 900 clockwise.
  • Colors:
  • Red Channel displays only the red channel
  • Green Channel displays only the green channel
  • Blue Channel displays only the blue channel
  • RGB -> BGR swaps the Red and Blue channels
  • RGB -> GRB swaps the Red and Green channels
  • RGB -> RBG swaps the Green and Blue channels
  • Gray Scale: Makes the image black and white.
  • Invert: Inverts the colors. Clicking this menu item again restores the picture.
  • Color Depth: Converts the current image to 4/8/16 bits by your selection. Clicking the Custom option opens the Quantize/Dither panel, where you can configure these options according to the image color depth.
  • Effects: Several visual effects you can apply to the actual image.
  • Resize: Allows you to define the new width and height, along with the scaling filter.

    Utils menu

  • Rename File: Allows you to rename the currently selected file.
  • Delete File: When you select Delete File, you are prompted if you want to delete the file to the Recycle bin. If you click Yes, the file is placed in the Recycle Bin. Clicking No cancels the delete.
  • Move To: Clicking this brings the Move Image File dialog box. You can move the file to any one five different locations, or specify a new location. SlowView remembers up to five different locations for you.
  • Copy To: Clicking this brings the Copy Image File dialog box. You can copy the file to any one five different locations, or specify a new location. SlowView remembers up to five different locations for you. Note: This function is not the same as the Copy function on the Edit menu!
  • Set Wallpaper: You can set the current image as the background of your desktop. You can place it centered, tiled or stretched, or you can delete the wallpaper file that SlowView created.
  • Change Style: The Browser can display files and folders in three different ways:
  • Displaying thumbnails.
  • Displaying the images and folders in a report style.
  • Displaying the images and folders in a list style.
  • Customize Toolbar: When you click this, you are told that you can rearrange the toolbar buttons by holding down the Shift key and dragging the button to its new position.
  • Restore Toolbar: Restores the tool bar to its original order.
  • Options: When you click on this, a dialog appears with five tabs, which allow you to:
  • Associate image file types to SlowView.
  • Toggle functions of the viewer.
  • Configure the appearance and size of the thumbnails displayed in Browse mode.
  • Define the locations for copying and moving files; turn on or off the Delete File prompt; and either send deleted files to the Recycle Bin or to oblivion.
  • Configure the quantizing/dithering settings.

    Help menu

  • Read Me: Displays this file.
  • About: Displays the About SlowView Box, giving the credits of the author. You can click on the Visit Homepage button to (what else) visit SlowView's web page, or you can click Write Mail to the Author button to send me email. I welcome your comments, suggestions, and (gasp) bug reports.
  • What's New? Displays the whatsnew.txt file, giving you the latest info on SlowView.
  • SlowView Home Page: Takes you to SlowView's home page.
  • PPEE: Takes you to Punk Productions Electronic Entertainment's web site.

    Toolbar

    There are numerous commands available by clicking on the toolbar buttons, which are equivalent to the menu commands.

  • Open: See File menu.
  • Reload: See File menu.
  • View/Browse: See File menu -> Browse.
  • Exit: See File menu.
  • Save As: This option is only available only from the toolbar. You can save the current image in a different image format.
  • Print: See File menu.
  • Zoom In: See View menu.
  • Actual Size: See View menu.
  • Zoom Out: See View menu.
  • Previous Image: See View menu.
  • Next Image: See View menu
  • Stop/Resume Slide Show: See View menu -> Toggle Slide Show.
  • Copy To: See Utils menu.
  • Move To: See Utils menu.
  • Delete: See Utils menu.
  • Rename: See Utils menu.
  • Options: See Utils menu.
