TASK: Incantation of HOSTID from the ether.

AUDIO: Downloaded DGC M E M O R E X from earlier today in Java Medi
       Player.
NOTE: I should really purchase that NVRAM replacement.
CONNECT: SDF via a series of other connections

           replacement,
ANNOYANCE: My terminal settings for connecting to grendizer (X1) an
other remote systems. My connection to grendizer (X1)
and voltesv (Ultra 10) is via the Lights Out Management
(LOM) port on grendizer and the 9-pin serial port (b) on
voltesv. The screen does not clear properly and
           terminal applications behave funny.
TASK: research configuration settings for tip utility and Solaris
      Terminal Emulator.
TASK: Update terminal configuration.
NOTE: I am so out of practice with Solaris 10. m0ar practice time!
ANNOYANCE: xterm window has no scrollbars.
NOTE: In xterm, CTRL+middle mouse button brings up VT Options with
      options for scrollbars.

RC2024 DAY XXI:
TASK: Incantation of HOSTID from the ether.

NOTE: Revisiting X11 forwarding and xhost.
This topic is taking me back to when I used a Sparcstation 5
for my daily workhorse back in the day. Since grendizer won'
talk to voltesv over ssh1 and I have been unsuccessful
updating ssh on voltesv, no X11 forwarding. I have been
connecting to grendizer over a serial connection.
HOWTO: Spawn remote xterm from grendizer to voltesv
       1. Open terminal on voltesv.
       2. Type 'xhost + grendizer'
       2. Type 'tip /dev/term/b -9600' to access grendizer over LOM
       3. Type 'export DISPLAY=voltesv:0.0' to have X application
          show up on voltesv.
       4. Type 'xterm -fg green -bg black -sb &' to have xterm show
           up on voltesv in CDE.
QUESTION: Do people still remotely spawn X applications like this o
is this unecessary with today's hardware? Do people stil
          use thin clients?
OBSERVATION: Old computers use too much power. I've been turning
everything off after each use. With everything runnin
             it's over 200 watts.

TASK: Incantation of HOSTID from the ether.
AUDIO: Intergalactic Wasabi Mix
       (DJ snowdusk's show from 202410202300)
SYSTEM ADMIN MODE: [ENABLED!]
BRIGHT IDEA: Since I am now able to spawn xterm and other X program
from grendizer to voltesv, maybe I can revisit my
original plan of using only 1 ethernet port on the
switch for the Sun lab and connect grendizer's second
ethernet port (dc1) to voltesv (hme0) via crossover
cable. This will make voltesv (running Solaris 10)
less exposed since it can only communicate with
grendizer, which is on the most recent version of
OpenBSD v7.6. Sounds like a task for tomorrow.

RC2024 DAY XXIV:
OBSERVATION: CRT ON/OFF button sticks :/
TASK: Incantation of HOSTID from the ether.
TASK: Disconnect voltesv from switch.
TASK: Connect crossover cable from dc1 to hme0.
TASK: Update hosts file on grendizer.
TASK: Update hostname.dc1 with new IP address.
TASK: Update hosts file on voltesv.
TASK: Update hostname.hme0 with new IP address.
TASK: Add grendizer to xhost on voltesv.
TASK: Connect to grendizer via LOM port.
TASK: Run 'export DISPLAY=voltesv:0.0' on grendizer.
TASK: Spawn xterm and grendizer and it should show up in voltesv.
END USER MODE: [ENABLED!]
OBSERVATION: Uh, how do I get files from grendizer to voltesv since
voltesv is not attached to the switch? Looks like ftp
is still running on voltesv on hme0.
