Ilulissat, Greenland. For generations, the sun peaked over
the horizon for the first time after a long winter in this
extreme northern region on exactly the same day; January
13. But in 2011, the sun rose two full days early,
something that had never happened in recorded history.

As to the "why" of this event, no one really has an answer.
Even more baffling is the fact that it hasn't happened again
since. There are still plenty of articles about this on the
plain old internet, but I figured I'd store a few particular
comments and items that I saved about the event here.

It is important not to abandon real events, simply because
we cannot explain them.
