I've always wanted to be able to play classical guitar, I find the music to be beautiful and just really enjoy listening to it. I've always thought if I could learn to play an instrument that classical guitar would be what I wanted to learn. And 17 years ago I bought a classical guitar, and started to take lessons. Then my son was born, and infants being infants, my time went away. So the guitar was shelved. Over the years I would look at the case and think - "Maybe I should start taking lessons again?" Only to dismiss the idea. Seventeen years passed. And again I looked at it and thought the same question. Only this time was different, this time I didn't ask myself if I should start taking lessons, I asked a different question: "Do you want to be saying, I wish I would have started taking lessons again when I was 50. When I turn 60. Because at this rate, that is going to be the case. So I decided to start taking lessons again. It has done wonders for me. I work in IT, and it's as far away from technology as you can be. It relaxes me and with my high blood pressure, I need every relaxing activity I can get! I also find that I am much more disciplined that when I first took lessons. Back then I would not practice until the last minute and the day before try and learn something to show my instructor I was working. Spoiler, that's not an effective learning method. Now I practice every day and really enjoy it. I recently got roped into participating in something the school called a "Practice Olympics". Basically it was a pizza party and a challenge to see who could get a bronze, silver or gold medal based off the number of days they practiced. To get a gold you needed 100+ days. When I started the challenge they had 103 possible practice days left. I finished with 102 practice days. Sadly our shitty weather caused the party to be cancelled, so I never got a chance to share the podium with the other tweens and younger students (I am 49). It would have been funny. But anyway, I had a good lesson today, and am super excited because I have a new musical piece to learn now that is easily the coolest piece of music I will have learned and sounds amazing. Its called "Aires De Son" by Geraldo Tamez if anyone is interested in hearing it just pop over to youtube and search for it. Today was a good day. -Snowcrash ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
