#:DATE 2021.05.12 #:WEATHER nice #:DISTANCE ~6 miles #:PACE easy I would say that I spent about two thirds of the time on the trails because it is around two miles, out-and-back, to where the trails start and I spent the rest of the time on the trails. These particular trails are not very technical or anything (though there are some like that in southern Indiana). Part of it is just a fine chipped gravel foot-path by the canal, but this surface is more challenging than it would seem: the gravel is fine enough that when conditions are dry, you lose just enough traction that you don't perceive yourself to be working harder but at the same time you seem to be either working harder or going slower. But when it's damp, the gravel just sticks to its bed of clay, so it feels almost like running on a track.
