It is shady and cool here, and you can see from the tracks in the brush that many creatures must move through here. A large, stout tree grows here, one that isn't very tall, but its crown is so thick that you can barely see up into it. It bears no fruit, however. Its roots splay out across the ground at your feet, and among the thicker ones near the trunk there is a large, cavernous hole leading down below. Also near the base is a lush growth of underbrush that forms a kind of shelter as well. A well-worn path leads south to the Gathering Circle. *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* You can go: Underbrush <N>, Gathering Circle <S>, Climb <U>, Hole <D> You scan the area, looking for any indication of somebeast passing through here. There is a path here that continues eastward through the trees, but it doesn't appear to be as well-travelled as the one that brought you here. Raspberry bushes grow here, as they do all along the edge of the waste. Their thorny brambles make passing through difficult in places, but they are fortunately laden with fruit. OOC> Snowback begins to pose. It is a crisp winter morning. Snow fell during the night, but it is thinner here in the raspberry thicket. Snowback enters the thicket from the north. He is alert but relaxed. He trots purposefully southward. Indra walks through the bushes with her nose to the ground, but she lifts her nose at the scent of a familiar Wolf. A butterfly comes fluttering through the bushes to the west. A butterfly flutters north, braving the thorns as it disappears through the brush. A deer comes walking through the bushes to the east. Snowback senses Indra's presence at about the same time. He stops, sniffs the air, and soon spots the she-wolf. He yips a greeting, trots over, and gives Indra a lick on the cheek, "Good mornin', Mum ... and Merry Christmas." A deer bounds southward, disappearing through the bushes. East Bank of the Swift River -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- You stand on the eastern bank of the Swift River, a fast-running mountain stream flowing down from the mountains to the south. Its waters are clear and cool, twinkling merrily in the sunlight above. This particular stretch of the riverbank is fairly open; the foliage here is mainly grasses and small shrubs, though to the northwest you can see the shady evergreen forest known as Shuddering Wood. The Swift's bed here is somewhat disrupted by the presence of a small and haphazardly-built beaver's dam on the far bank. It extends part of the way across, and does provide a way across the river. The riverbank continues northwest around a bend, and upstream it meanders its way through the foothills in and and amongst smaller clumps of trees. There is a faintish sort of path here leading north. It disappears into a copse of trees at the edge of Shuddering Wood. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- You can go: Upstream, following the Riverbank <SW>, Cross the Dam <W>, Into the Wood <N>, Downstream Along the Riverbank <NW> You scan the area, looking for any indication of somebeast passing through here. No one has passed here, as far as you can tell. Done. You head northward, making your way through the evergreen forest toward a little glade. Shudderwood Glade -((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))- You find yourself standing in a perfectly charming little clearing surrounded on all sides by tall, whispery white pine trees and carpeted with the soft, red-brown needles. The glade apparently formed when a particularly large member of the evergreen titans fell, because the glade is bordered to the east by an impressively-sized log. It's in an advanced state of decay, and judging from its size it provides a nice homeplace for some of the glade's residents. In fact, this glade appears to be quite well-populated. Judging from the rustling of the trees, the heavily-thicketed underbrush, and the trampled pine- needle floor, it would seem that many creatures make their home here. The Swift River can be heard rushing by to the west. To the south, the forest appears to open out into the lowlands. -((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))- You can go: Into the Thicket <E>, Enter the Log <N>, Toward the Open Country <S> You scan the area, looking for any indication of somebeast passing through here. Shudderwood Thicket -((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))- You find yourself standing in a kind of sheltered nook within the thicket. There are tangles of branches and vines overhead that keep out the elements, and the ground here is dry. You're obviously not the first to have explored your way here. Openings in the brush -- tunnels, practically -- lead off in all directions to the dens of other beasts who have come before you and made their homes here. There is a larger break in the foliage to the west, leading out to the glade. -((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))-((*))- You can go: Huddle <1>, Liss <2>, Mrots <3>, Lestes <4>, Out <W> Contents: OOC Sign You scan the area, looking for any indication of somebeast passing through here.
