For context, the MegaDrive, the original name of the Sega Genesis, has that name because its games had at least 1 megabit, something that was impressive enough to put in the name of the console itself, and games like Phantasy Star 2 said on its cover proudly "A 6 megabit game!". Far from wanting to speak ill of the Sega console, I want to emphasize how enormous 8 megabits are for a standard Famicom cartridge, not in any extra add-on. Metal Slader Glory tells a science fiction story in an adventure game format, now more popular under the term visual novel. And although I could tell you the story of the game itself, in this note I would like to talk more about everything else and for you to then decide if you want to experience its story for yourself. This game is a marvel to the eyes, what it manages to do with the limitations of the console blows my mind, everything is beautiful and animated, the characters are lovely and I found the phasing spectacular. It has so much attention to detail that one can notice in every second of the gameplay how much love its creator had for his work. Had? Has! To this day his creator, Yoshimiru, continues to make art and content for what he considers this life work. Metal Slader Glory for NES came out in '91, almost bankrupting Hal Laboratory due to how expensive it was to develop this titanic game for the time. The game came with a prequel comic in the manual which had to be read before playing the game. In '97 Yoshimiru tried to make a serialized MSG manga, but it was canceled after the first volume. A sequel for the Nintendo 64DD was planned and cancelled. A re-release of MSG was made for the SNES in 2000 under the name "director's cut", with only graphical improvements due to the console's new capabilities. A Drama CD came out in '08 and currently, Yoshimiru continues making art and the occasional spin-off comic in his personal store. and his twitter. ==>https://mc-berrys.booth.pm/ ==>https://yoshimiru-ssss.fanbox.cc/ ==>https://x.com/yoshimiru_SS/ To tell the truth, I was captivated by the love that Yoshimiru has for his work, not letting it die even 30 years later, with more negative anecdotes than positive, he does not let his passion for his work and love die. Until now, I was only able to enjoy its original NES game, but I will continue searching every corner of the internet for its canceled manga, the drama CD, and these modern comics that it only sells physically in Japan.
