the seagull stood alone in the empty parking lot. the 
city traffic was a distant drone, seemingly muffled by the 
rays of the dying spring sun.

white feathers, lukewarm breeze, the smell of concrete, 
newborn trees. this newly-made strip mall, a potential for 
the rich. the newly installed windows, all shining urban 
gems.

a human came and sat on the curb, a few feet away from the 
seagull. "this world brings a sadness, especially right now; 
a sadness that i wish i could describe".

the bird didn't understand, but it could still relate. the 
sun's dying breath left them both in the dark. the parking 
lot's lamps weren't connected just yet.
