The city is waiting for the remains of Ida. There is a sense of
anticipation. Although, we are to receive a far weakened weather event
than that which made landfall in Louisiana. However, 5 to 6 inches of
rain can still cause a lot of damage.

I have the air conditioning off and have opened my house's windows. It's
humid. I want to hear the outside world for a few minutes. The cars and
trucks go by about the day's business. Today the school buses are rolling
past, carting children to their schools. I wonder how many children are
happy to return to class. COVID has kept them isolated for a long time.

This strange time has been a boon for many families. Some families enjoy
being together. It's true. I've seen parents in our
neighborhood spending time outside with the kids. It's time they wouldn't
have had otherwise.

The presence of school buses on the road mark the beginning of my favorite
time of the year, Autumn. Soon the heat of Summer will pass. The days
will grow shorter. The trees will wear the Fall colors.

The Fall also brings thoughts of old times. The memories are joyful of
friends, college days, sweethearts, and lost loves. It is happy and yet
filled with a sense of melancholy, the longing for things that can never
return.

"But I miss you most of all, my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall"
