The Lessons of Solitaire
1. There is no such thing as unlimited opportunity. The
game does not offer the same chance every time. There
are only 52 cards in a deck.
2. It is not always your fault if you can't win. The
deal is random. The cards can be dealt in a way that
gives you no chance of winning the game. No matter what
choices you may make, it is impossible to win a game in
which you can't make even one move! Who is to blame?
3. There is no point in obsessing over any one game. A
point will come when it becomes apparent that it is
impossible to win. It is time to start over.
4. No matter what occurred in a previous game, a new
deal is a new deal. The cards hold nothing against you.
Life is a lot like Solitaire. Too many people cherish
illusions about it that keep them sitting around
shifting a card back and forth when they should just try
a new deal.
