Arctic science event is scheduled for today. The North Pole 
Expedition: Wha= t Do We Know About the 13th Arctic Ocean 
Scientific Expedition? China's 13t= h Arctic Ocean scientific 
expedition team is now working in the Chukchi Sea= . During the 
roughly 80-day journey, the crew will have about 40 days to ca= 
rry out scientific research. "Our expedition this time focuses 
on the ecosy= stem changes against the rapid changes in the 
Arctic with four major tasks,= " Wang Jinhui, leader of the 
scientific expedition team, told China Media G= roup (CMG).

Yuko= n Gov'ts Over Offshore Oil and Gas Western Arctic 
Offshore Accord is 1st of=
 its kind with Indigenous government as full party. A new deal 
has been sig= ned =E2=80=94 billed as the first of its kind in 
Canada =E2=80=94 that's me= ant to give Northerners more of a 
say in any offshore oil and gas developme= nt in the western 
Arctic. Dan Vandal, Canada's minister of Northern Affairs= , 
was in Inuvik, N.W.T., on Thursday to sign the deal, alongside 
Inuvialuit=
 Regional Corporation (IRC) chair Duane Ningaqsiq Smith, and 
the premiers o= f Yukon and the Northwest Territories. CBC News 
Alaska Division of Oil and = Gas Plans Geothermal Lease Sale 
for Volcano Near Anchorage The Alaska Divis= ion of Oil and Gas 
is preparing to hold a lease sale offering rights to exp= lore 
for geothermal energy resources of Mount Spurr, a snow-capped 
volcano = about 80 miles northwest of Anchorage. The decision 
was announced on July 2= 8 by Division Director Derek

Assembly Arctic C= ircle is an international conference on 
dialogue and cooperation on the fut= ure of the Arctic and our

from governments, organizations, corporations, universities, 
th= ink tanks, environmental associations, indigenous 
communities, concerned ci= tizens, and others. It is nonprofit

Conference = hosts invite researchers, research managers and 
stakeholders to the fourth = Svalbard Science Conference. The 
conference will focus on achieving excelle= nt science through

albard research, building and strengthening interdisciplinary 
and internati= onal networks and consolidating Svalbard as an 
attractive platform for Arct= ic research. The conference is

Finland, the birthplace of officia= l Arctic cooperation. This 
international conference, organized by the City = of Rovaniemi 
and the Arctic Centre at the University of Lapland, gathers po= 
licymakers, academics, and other stakeholders for Arctic 
discussions. Due t= o Russia's invasion of Ukraine, changes in 
Arctic cooperation will be promi= nently featured in the 
conference agenda, and will be explored from the poi= nt of 
view of national and international security, and from a

Edinburgh, Scotland, UK Arctic Ob= serving Summit The 7th 
biennial AOS as part of Arctic Science Summit Week (= ASSW) 
2024. The AOS draws a wide range of participants from across 
the spec= trum of Arctic observing =E2=80=93 Indigenous 
experts, operational agency r= epresentatives, scientists, and 
others =E2=80=93 from around the world. Muc= h of the summit is 
organized around discussions led by working groups on pa= 
rticular themes (Regional to global observing, Data sharing, 
System impleme= ntation/SAON ROADS, Observing System Benefits). 
In addition to plenary and = working group sessions, this year

 As the largest Arctic policy and business conference in North 
America, wit= h partners and convenings worldwide, the Arctic 
Encounter continues to gath= er leading voices from around the 
world. The Arctic Encounter is eager to w= elcome 1,000+ 
participants to Alaska for a world-class arts and cultural ex= 
perience, including policy debates, dialogue with international 
leaders, bu= siness executives, Indigenous peoples, scientists, 
students, defense leader= s, diplomats, policymakers, and more.

Research Planning (ICARP IV) I= n lead up to its 35th 
anniversary in 2025, the International Arctic Science=
 Committee (IASC) is coordinating a multi-year planning process 
for the Fou= rth International Conference on Arctic Research 
Planning (ICARP IV) that wi= ll engage Arctic researchers, 
policymakers, residents, and stakeholders fro= m around the 
world to collegially discuss the state of Arctic science, the = 
place the Arctic occupies in global affairs and systems, to 
consider the mo= st urgent knowledge gaps and research 
priorities that lie before us and to = explore avenues to 
address these research needs. This event is hosted by a = 
consortium of US institutions, including the University of 
Colorado Boulder= , University of Northern Iowa, University of 
Alaska Fairbanks, and Alaska P= acific University. ICARP I, II, 
and III focused the attention of the world= =E2=80=99s 
researchers toward the value of strategic international 
coordina= tion in accelerating progress in addressing critical 
challenges. ICARP IV w= ill build upon this concept by striving 
to achieve consensus and build coll= aborations among the 
leading scientific, academic, environmental, Indigenou= s and 
political organizations currently concerned with Arctic issues.
