So it appears to me:

   a) We can't trust the thought experiment completely.

We are dealing with our relationship to other people. Some of
these people include: Ourselves. The hypothetical people in the
thought experiment. Future people who will find out. What they
will say. How will I feel in the future. How will I feel at that
moment. What would my 3rd grade teacher say if she found out my
choice? What if Mom found out?

It's not mathematical. It gives the APPEARANCE of a
mathematical, rational question, but that is a lie. It is not a
   mathematical, rational question.

Yet, it is still rational. Sorting through mental luggage is a
very rational act. We don't always have the luxury of time to
sort through mental luggage "in the moment" to find our favorite
pair of socks but here, far removed from the scenario, we can.

   It's really a good question.
