Future. Approximately 500 years. It's close enough to the
present that I would likely *recognize* something of it and the
language shouldn't have changed enough for me to be able to not
   understand anybody.

But it's far enough away that advances will take the rest of my
life to understand, assuming I don't get dissected by a
scientist which is also likely, depending on whether science
advances socially or stagnates with its current outlook on
   humanity.

If I could, I'd be a historian, filling in the gaps of their
knowledge. They will have lost a LOT OF KNOWLEDGE 500 years from
   now.

Where will these words I'm writing be in 500 years? Heck, where
will they be in five years? Unless I publish it somehow, gone
forever. So will a lot of knowledge go as it always does.
