In the USA, we see things from an American-centered point of
   view.* We barely even consider other countries.* We tend to
   compare solely against ourselves. Homeless in the USA in a major
   city is practically riches in comparison to living conditions in
   some places in the world. I'm grateful I have no personal
   experience with true poverty.* Keeping your head above water is
   still swimming.* We just forget to be grateful for what we have
   and instead focus on how much more others have.
