On the IRIX again
=================

After somewhat long pause I am sitting a front of my SGI O2. There has
been a chain of works in our house which is not finished, yet. So a lot
of stuff was carefully covered and put to safe places and thus it has
been unavailable.

Finally, our home office is (less or more) usable now. So I have
installed all cables and have started to use the O2 again. Now I am
trying to identify the things which stopped work in meantime. There are
some: a few more WWW servers require HTTPS and encryption protocols
which are not available on any IRIX browser; size of some data I used
to run here have exceeded limits of my old machine RAM, CPU and data
types (I run a 32bit OS here) and so on. The LaTeX formats and tools
(which I have to use on my modern Linux systems) are no longer
compatible with the old TeXlive installation here (is it already 12
years old? I don't remember - but it was the last which was able to
correctly built here).

Some things still work, fortunately. My FEA code was now worse that it
was in the past (but also no better!), many UNIX/IRIX tools work as
they always do and so on.

Thus now I am listening the MP3 (the XMMS version 1), writing this post
on the remote system [1], browsing the rc2014 BBS [2], browsing the
Bongusta, syncing my stuff with the Git (to an unnammed non-public
repository) and even running hte Sunbird calendar synchronisation
(which still works for some reason). The Sunbird (it's already obsolete
stuff as it was replaced by the calendar integrated in the Thunderbird)
is very slow here (as is everything from the Mozilla [4]) but it works.

There are rather hardware-related issues: the CD drive does not open
(it is said to be a common issue) and I am unable to find the correct
SCSI cable to connect my floppy and DAT drives to the workstation.
