TRG Pro: first impressions
==========================

The title is all wrong because I extensively used the TRG Pro in the
past. But the last time when I synced the TRG was in 2/2016 and then I
have been using the original Palm III devices (IIIx + IIIxe) instead of
the TRG. I have not wanted to damage or lost my only TRG Pro (which is
pretty rare as you may know). Now I have two TRGs so I can use one of
them on daily basis, I think.

I restored the memory from backup (from February 7, 2016) and then I
added some apps which I have started to use in meantime (the DiddleBug,
the Progect, the GeoMate and the PalmPix among others).

So how about my feelings? The device is already pre-configured to fit
my needs (I always rename the "Main" category to the "Applications" to
have it as first in the list and re-maping the AddressBook button to
something more useful (to the Progect for this device).

I noticed tho interesting anomalies:

1. Both my TRG Pros have battery door cracked, I never saw this problem
on any other Palm III (maybe except the all-transparent IIIe which has
much more fragile transparent plastics)

2. Both my TRGs have very stiff buttons. One device is new but the
second was used for long time. Still, both have much stiffer buttons
than any other Palm III in my collection (and I have at least 10 other
Palms).

The Palm OS is slightly modified to accommodate the extra hardware but
it is rather unnoticeable (the most visible change is the "System Info"
menu item). CPU is identical to he Palm III/IIIxex (16MHz Motorola
DragonBall) but the device feels to be more sluggish. It will be
related to higher number of installed programs (I obviously have less
program on a IIIX which has just half of the TRG's RAM; on the IIIxe I
always have reserved a lot of free RAM for PAlmPix photos so there were
about less programs). The screen is nice - at least as good as the IIIx
screen (which is the best B/W screen on any Palm, I think).

There are some new possibilities which I never tried before:

* a CompactFlash ethernet card (I have the hardware) and the driver
  should exist

* a CompactFlash GPS (I have the ahrdware, I'm not sure about drivers)

At least synchronisation over Ethernet might made my life easier, I
thing. I should try if it works. The GPS might help (my GPS unit was
shipped with a Handera 330 so I have some hopes that PAlm OS 4.x
drivers may exist). In case it will work I may be able to do geocaching
with a Palm...

So far, I am satisfied with my "new" device...
