Failures, updates and so ======================== The PSU of my SGI 1600SW monitor failed at Friday. I initially thought that the monitor itself is dead. So I replaced it with the spare one. Because there was no change and it was unlikely that both devices are dead, I tried to replace the PSU and it resolved the problem (I got the spare PSU some time ago, fortunately). So I can continue to use my main desktop computer (the SGI O2) with a proper monitor. It's the second such thing in recent few weeks: I had to replace my Intel Compute Stick by the old good Lenovo X61s before some time (I use the Linux machine for secure browsing and for other tasks that cannot be done on SGI workstations). After reading of the Lougout's post [1] (it's the Bongusta's author, the post is in the Czech language) about his issues with Power Mac G5 noise, I decided to review my equipment. He has problems with increasing noise caused by old HDDs and by old fans. My equipment is much more quiet but the PSU fan is louder and louder. SO I have to try to clean it or even to replace it (it's already a more quieter one than the original SGI fan - but it's already about 10 years old). A HDD replacement isn't so easy: there is a SCSI drive. A SCSI-SATA adapters do exist but the compatible ones are very expensive. References: [1] http://technomorous.eu/post/162207231695
