Modern WWW browsing on IRIX
===========================

You know, the SGI IRIX is dead at last from 2006 so there are almost no
new apps. Definitely there is no "current" WWW browser (people have
been trying hard but it seems to be impossible). The latest one is the
Firefox 3.0.19 with ages old SSL suppurt (so almsot no https://).

What to do?

Some people still use the old good HTTP protocol so these webs are
available [1], [2].

Many people use gopher. It just works (in the Lynx, the Netscape, even
in the Firefox 3).

The FrogFind! [3] of course work, too. There is even images support
(images are rather small as they are sized for much less capable
machines than our SGIs are).

The carl(1) utility of the Crypto Ancienne [4] works, too. I have only
tried the direct mode (it can work as a proxy, too). It comples with
the latest NekoWare gcc (4.7) quite easily.

Nothing of this stuff is ideal for the "modern" Web but it's better
than have nothing.
