X11 degradation
===============

I remember times when I was able to run complex X11 applications
(including a commercial FEA package) remotely on my Linux or IRIX
desktop. The IRIX case was quite insane one: my old Linux laptop (a
Pentium at 90MHz with small RAM and with the XFree86) was connected via
SSH and VPN to the remote server and the IRIX box (for a long time it
was the SGI Indy with R4400 CPU at 175 MHz) was connected via SSH to
that laptop. But that worked.

I was newer successful in my attempts to repeat this functionality on
any more modern Linux (with the XORG stuff). It always was slow and
unreliable (so I no longer use these things).

When the remote serer was upgraded to modern Linux, too they my
computer also have became equally useless.

Why breaking of good and working things is always called "progress"?
