m68k->PPC->x86->ARM?
====================

Please note that I'm trying to make fun. Don't take this post too
seriously.

I just have read news about Apple's planned switch to the ARM. I'm not
surprised but I think that the switch will be slower than it was in the
past. Possibly, they will abandon their professional computer line
(Pro) at all. But we will see.

I don't thing that there will be any actual problems. They are long
history in abandoning their old ecosystems - they threw out the Classic
OS (version 1-9) during the OS X era, they easily removed all PowerPC
stuff in their Intel era and saw not actual problem. Their users
accepted that. So I thing that in 2-3 years there may be ARM-only Apple
product line.

I have used their product in the OS X era relatively frequently (the
iBook, the iPod), I still have (and use) the PowerBook G4 and still
have the iMac G5 (this one I use only often as a media player). But I
never have seen a reason to get an Intel Mac (I don't like OS newer
that 10.4 and I am still able to buy a decent PC for less money if I
wish) . And it seems will never get an ARM-based Mac.

Actually, things are bit different: as you may know, if I decide to buy
something then the company decides to leave the marked or to at least
drop the product. The exaples are: the OpenMoko, the Palm, the HP, the
SGI (the IRIX was my main OS for 15 years), the Pebble, the Canonical
(I'm a long-time Ubuntu Touch user, you know..) and the Sun, too. The
Apple is not an exception: they released the OS 10.4 just few weeks
after I got my iMac G4 with the Panther and decided to abandon the
PowerPC after I got my second PowerPC Mac.

As you might conclude I just decided to buy an Intel-based Apple
computer to port and test my software of this platform. They understand
the risks so they decided to leave the x86 platform... ;-)
