It's four in the morning, and I'm still nice and relaxed in the Computer
Club's computer lab. We're going to meet today for a short bit before
disbanding for a little while before our movie night tonight. We're
going to be showing Hackers (1995) and Wargames (1983); I think it'll be
really fun! :p (hopefully SBA gives us our dang money for our pizza).

Tomorrow SAEC is gonna have its Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Tournament :> Six or
seven people have signed up already (including me), and I think more
people are going to simply show up at the event and sign up then. I'm
looking forward to it! I hope a lot of people participate so that we can
raise enough for a $50 first prize, plus some leftover money to use for
another event. We're already planning out having a Cards Against
Humanity (or more accurately, Xyzzy) Tournament probably sometime in
October or November, and we're wanting to have the SAEC 10 year
anniversary party either late this semester or sometime in the Spring.
I'm really excited for it; it's great being the president of something
you care a heckton about and have put a bunch of effort into for the
past, like, three years. Gotta stay heckin' SAECsy!

As far as academic stuff goes, I have a paper due Sunday and a test on
Monday (that I'm def not looking forward to). For the paper, we
basically have to mythologize something in our world, similar to how
Roland Barthes does in his book "Mythologies", which dive deep into
consideration of things that we never bother to give a second glance to
(like laundry detergent, or plastic) and their place in our culture and
civilization as a whole. I actually chose Gopher as my mythological
target, since it's this sect of the internet still being used for its
simplicity and charm (and underground-ness; give me mas bien adjetivos).
So, basically, yeah, I'm gonna be writing everyone's basic essay about
how great and interesting Gopher is and why they're gonna start a phlog
(but hopefully in a more colorful and critical way).

If possible I really want to turn in the essay printed on the DEC LA50
dot matrix printer that I got working for the club. I think it'd be
really cool :p. I need to get more USB<->RS232 adapters and RJ12-MMJ
adapters (because we now have three VT320 terminals and two LA50
printers) to try and get stuff going. I've started a GoFundMe for
computer club equipment, so hopefully we'll get some donations on that
as well as eventual SBA funding (when they get their stuff together and
fix their fund allocation form so thAT I CAN REQUEST STUFF). I'm really
wanting to get us some good/new desktops and also a better server than
the Pi 3b, so getting some real funding (beyond what SBA will/can give
us) would definitely be nice. I may need to replace my treasurer though
looool.

That's all for now :> If anyone wants to watch Hackers at 11pm UTC as a
toast to the Computer Club, send me a message on Mastodon :p
@jebug29@mastodon.sdf.org. Hack teh planet!

Also, it appears SDF changed their gopher daemon from Gophernicus to
something else? What's up with that? If anyone's discussing it on
Mastodon, feel free to tag me, or if it's on BBoard, shoot me a message
or an e-mail. Okay bye for now!
