.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~. So... I use SeaMonkey[1] as my primary web and gopher browser (thanks to OverbiteFF[2]). It's not a happy time, since many sites use useragent sniffing to determine whether the browser is "worthy" of viewing their content, and even those who use feature sniffing don't have any form of graceful degredation other than "Sorry, you're shit outta luck unless you use Chrome." It's absolutely disgraceful just how bad things have gotten. And I don't fully blame Chrome, though Google and their antics[3] do get some of that blame. No, it's mostly the fault of these developers, using "standards" that come out of WHATWG that only Blink really supports, because Google says it's better. They're the ones actively putting users last, and their own desires first. And that isn't always a problem, as there's usually plenty of competition. However, when all the competition does it as well, there's a problem. Then it becomes something out of a conspiracy theory. Like... I can understand not wanting to cater to people with ancient browsers or lack of SHA2 or TLS 1.2 support, but come on. Needing massive amounts of memory and a number of advanced standards to run a web-based text editor? Or an IRC client? We had better support with /Java applets/ than this! (I can't believe I'm calling for the return of Java applets in 2019...) I'll stick with my native apps, thanks. I don't need StackEdit or KiwiIRC if they're gonna be so picky. I'll continue using my bitlbee gateway for Steam and Discord if the devs only want the latest and greatest machines on their service for their "native" apps. (Electron isn't naitve, dammit!) As for my Failbook that's currently running ChromiumOS (Acer Aspire 5 line), I think I'll try getting another flavor of Linux on the thing and go from there. As much as I'd like to go Gentoo, I don't have that kind of time. Sabayon[4] might work, though. SeaMonkey works *great* on Gentoo-based OSes. .~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.
