Since I first started sniffing around Bitcoin in 2011, I've seen a lot of
changes come to cryptocurrency. There is so much to write about, it could
fill a book.

Over the years I've seen many cryptocurrencies come and go. I'm drawn to
projects that have a goal or a community that is independent of the
developers. Sure, every project needs developers, of course. But can the
project exist if the rock stars get hit by a bus tomorrow.

One of these enduring projects I watch is Unobtanium (UNO). It began as a
clone of Bitcoin in 2013 as an experiment in rapid emission, subsequent
low inflation, and low issue (250,000 UNO max). UNO was launched fairly,
with no pre-mine. The launch was publicly announced in advance so miners
could prepare their equipment.

UNO has withstood the loss of the main developer, and is supported by a
small but dedicated community mostly centered on Telegram
(https://t.me/unobtaniumuno). It's also withstood cryptocurrency exchange
failures, and all manner of attacks. I don't care how great a project
looks on paper, until it has withstood years of adversity, it has a lot to
prove.

Another project I like is BlockNet (BLOCK). Like Bitcoin and Unobtanium,
BlockNet is opensource. The goal of the project is to create an "internet
of blockchains." One of the uses of BlockNet is to create a safe
decentralized exchange where the traders possess their private keys,
avoiding theft from hacking or exit scams.

I recently began testing trading on Block DX (the name of the
decentralized BlockNet exchange). With a reasonable effort, I was able to
connect by BTC, UNO and BLOCK wallets and make buy/sell orders between
them, with no human middleperson.

Exchanging one cryptocurrency for another across blockchains is referred
to as Atomic Swaps. It's quite an accomplishment for the BlockNet
community, the culmination of years of work and struggle.

For more info on any of these projects, you'll have to go to the web:

I also hang out on the Unobtanium Telegram channel, @unobtaniumuno

Cheers all.
