It is fair to say that, for most of us in the West, our lives swim in a
sea of digital technology. Some say this is to our detriment. Other
enthusiastically opine that it's all to the positive. What I would like
to do is remember how it has been in my life and the lives of those with
whom I have lived and worked.

So, the posts will be a collection of memories. In time, I'll reflect
more deeply and write articles that pull the reflections into a more
coherent whole. I am a retired academic. What else could you expect? Due
to the circumstances of my life, taking the time to engage in this
project comes at a cost. I have many other things that need to be put in
order before time runs out.

Why am I doing this? In part, it is for myself. Digital technologies and
their precursors have shaped my life in fundamental ways. As I am coming
to the end of my life, it would be good to better register what these
ways have been. Additionally, I hope that my family, especially my
grandchildren, benefit from such recollections and reflections. Finally,
perhaps others might also gain.

I can depend on very little to be regular in my life. That will be true
in the future, as well. Be patient with me!
