Using my vintage Olympia SM9 Deluxe typewriter I completed a mailing
envelope with my username and SDFs P.O. Box. I put a $1 bill inside. This
is supposed to be the way to validate your account. I dropped it in the
mail on Saturday the 28th of August. I guess it probably arrives in
Seattle soon. I'd love to be validated because I can't survive in a
non-VIM world.

The remnants of Ida blew through here today. I was in town dropping off
the Eurovan to get tires, an alignment and emissions inspection. There was
a lot of rain. My road flooded out in one section. I've seen it flood
worse though. Right now it is 9:30pm and the rain has stopped but the wind
seems to be with us. The air temperature was down right cool all day
72F/22C. Currently with the 23 mph wind gusts and the cool air it
definitely feels like autumn is around the corner. The rest of the week is
supposed to be gorgeous weather, sunny and the same cool temps.

Some colleagues at an energy company with locations impacted by Ida were
working very hard today with recovery operations. There was one particular
issue that I discussed with them. Listening to the conditions at work that
they have to deal with just sounds horrible. I believe they have a group
of employees sequestered on location with a tent system. I recall living a
light version of that during Hurricane Irene. The damage was not as severe
but there was widespread regional power outages for about a week. It's sad
that you have to leave your family at home with no power to go to work and
be the hero. Capitalism.
