What would life after AGI look like? Perhaps it is
not just AGI. Perhaps it is a plethora of things
that will happen all at once: telescoping and
accelerating to a convergence point where it all,
over time, shapes life to look much different than
what we have and know today. This may be called
singularity by some, second coming by others,
apocalypse maybe, or paradise even. But it might
be subtle and not so noticeable - boiling frog.

Imagine...

Self driving cars allow for pleasant commute and
cities begin to look differently - lower density,
longer commute but affordable housing. Internet is
fast and everywhere with Starlink et al making low
latency connectivity a true utility. And absurdly
cheap desalination make the west coast livable -
there are community gardens growing cheap organic
vegetables. Abandoned office buildings are
converted to affordable housing and health care
starts with a consultation with your own phone.

Where is AGI in all of this? Hopefully embedded in
it all - solving all these problems - answering
questions such as - how to make office buildings
into living spaces, how to grow community gardens
and feed the residents, how to heal humans without
the need for expensive health care plans etc.

But I do worry about people, including myself,
losing their jobs, and with that their life's
purpose, drive, and aspirations. I also worry
about increased reliance on intelligent system
to the point where we, in aggregate, outsource
our thinking to these computers and forget how
to apply critical thought, how to perform our own
research, or to question facts as these are
presented to us.

Not having a job is scary and I do not know what
that would look like or when it may arrive. But
I think about what I personally would do if I had
the time to refocus my life.

Here are the things I am passionate about & would
sink my time into (IFF food, shelter & health care
were somehow solved for us all):
- mathematics - algebra, geometry, and calculus
- farming - efficient irrigation, tomatoes, goats
- non profit - Uganda - housing, water, sanitation
- startup - high revenue per employee, small org
- OSS - Linux Kernel and/or OpenBSD contributions
- teaching - college or elementary math
- resume PhD track
- local or fed government - space force, cyber*
- work on the intersection of AGI X gov X finance
- high-rise elevator technician/mechanic/repairman
- work with humans in health care - become a nurse
- build programs, gardens, shelters for unhoused
- study law & influence policy
