## writing gemlog entries
Hm, so I've gotten sick of writing files directly via ssh. Part of it is likely user-ignorance (still haven't gotten my head around control characters, and emacs seemed to reverse backspace and del for some reason??!) And I'm not really willing to "get used to it" when there's a simpler option nearby.

So, I'm just uploading files now, via scp. I'm still editing the index.gmi page manually, I've got to look into a way to do this properly. Have found something via Hugo apparently, but I don't write enough to warrant learning that system either. Ah well.

I looked into some other hosting solutions via the Gemini quickstart page to see if there were any alternatives, but decided to stick with sdf as it seems pretty stable, for one thing.

Also, I found the SourceHut hosting page - their quick start process seems pretty easy, you just need to create a tarball and you can use your own domain as well. The instructions on their site are pretty good, too, for a noob like me! However, when they moved on to automating deployments for further updates, they ask you to create a git repository but only list their own services on that list. (I'm not sure if you could still do it on your own self-hosted git repository?)
Anyway, I figured if I have to pay $2/month to run a gemini capsule which I'm proabbly going to not use in a few months' time, I'd rather pay a one-off fee to become ARPA. I know it doesn't quite make sense, but that's my brain for you.

So, we're in lockdown again for 3 days, it's just over the long weekend. This doesn't really affect us, anyway - we just stay home most of the time.
But it's annoying that the quarantine hotel arrangement gets stuffed up, and the whole city has to go into lockdown. And it's not the first time this has happened, either.

Husband came across a category of games on Xbox store: "Un-halloween horror". What? and why?
