Lent

I am entertaining ideas on how to abstain or mortify my flesh desires for Lent, if at least
to build will and character while achieving my goals for 2023, which have fallen away as
my brain still shunts toward shiny distractions and postponements.

Ideas in descending order of strength and magnitude:

Stay off Mastodon and Reddit. I get that mastodon.sdf.org is a thriving participant in the
electronic commons, and I contributed by pulling out the noticeable toxins from the commons.
What I need from my fellows is not to be found in the electronic commons these days: earnest
discussion, compassion, and camaraderie, flashes of best selves in action. My attention and
energy do not perceptibly aid others to be their best selves, what I give out does not even
return to me equally, let alone thricefold. Posts I find benign and innocuous by tone and
topic another moderator deems worthy of limiting or removing, or suspending the account.

I mean to write letters, be more active on XMPP. The people who care can see on my profile
where to find me, but I know the ones who care already reach me through those means.

No new library physical book loans, except for holds in transit. Holds expected to be received
after Easter Sunday are allowed. Intent is to 'read down' my stack of seven books by my bed.

Decluttering: 40 sacks in 40 days. If in doubt, throw it out.

Abstain/fast Wednesdays and Fridays. Use the $ saved for food bank contributions, or to
purchase 'homelessness' kits: bags of bottled water, pair of socks, chapstick, protein bar, $5.
I don't see homeless people where I live: the village is too small and removed from amenities
for the homeless. A food bank the village DOES have.

As an aside, do you see new phlogs from SDF accounts, including Gemini *.gmi posts? Isn't it
 delicious?

I will likely continue Five Questions for March and April 2023. But the prompts won't come
 from my Mastodon accounts.
