I started to make an entry yesterday but didn't actually put anything in, so I'm just updating this now. Ended up running to the hospital about that thing that was happening, and it's probably not that big of a deal! That's what they told me anyway. no heart issues or apparent brain damage, still scary but not nearly as scary as it was. I guess I was just being a little dramatic about the whole thing- what can you do.

This week otherwise has been pretty good. I actually had two other friends with birthdays in the past week in addition to the one I wrote about from last week (2 weeks ago?). Played some terraria with the first one, as well as one other friend and SO, which was nice. For those unaware terraria is a 2d sandbox adventure game- I can recommend it, as I played a lot when it came out in 2012 or so and am still playing it occasionally now. The other friend isn't as much of a gamer, so I just called him up and chatted for a while. He's one of those guys with a really encyclopedic mind, so he can just go on and on- a type of person that I find I get along well with. Maybe I just like to hear people blab about things, but it works out anyway. I learned when talking with him that Sublime was not the original composer of "Smoke Two Joints", but rather it was the Toyes, a 90s reggae group. I Gave them a more thorough listen today and can say they're pretty entertaining. In addition to Smoke Two Joints, they made a sort
of parody of Monster Mash called Monster Hash. I don't really have a great halloween music playlist, but if I ever make one, Monster Hash will be in it.

SO and I continue to paint pokemon cards. We've now got two apiece, and SO is coming along with a third. We had a card called "big parasol" which was just an umbrella, and I thought that was super boring. I turned it into a charmander holding that umbrella in a rain storm, though drawing the rain was a little tricky. I tried to look to Bill Waterson's rain drawings in Calvin and Hobbes for inspiration, but ink on paper is a pretty different game from Acrylic on pokemon card. At the same time, SO was making a skitty coming out of a mario pipe, modeled after a pipe from super mario world 2, which we recently beat on the SNES. If you have never read calvin and hobbes, or never played super mario world 2, I can strongly recommend both. As I said earlier, SO started painting a third pokemon card as well- They were using some trainer card for something or other. I started a third at the same time, but paused to work on a different project. I acquired my sister's old laptop from High School and wiped it to turn int
o a linux thingy to just leave around and ssh into, store things on and just experiment. I use Windows on my main laptop and though I could just dual boot linux on it, it's fun to have something lying around the house that's always on- particularly for making servers. I was initially going to try and put the gopher server on there, but found the SDF community to be neat enough that I went with this instead.

Anyway, I've got her old laptop, but the hinge was destroyed. I decided to turn it into the worlds shittiest 80s style micro computer / keyboard case that you could just plug into a monitor or SSH into for use, so I removed the screen from it and it continues to work just fine. That being said, it had all the wifi antennae and webcam/mic cables sticking out of it still, so I had to pull it all apart to get at the connectors and snake them out. I was actually pretty surprised at how much I had to disassemble it to get at everything, I've definitely had an easier time with that on other laptops in the past. That being said, I'm no expert, so maybe I'm just misremembering.

We ordered Thai food last night. Kind of a lazy move, especially since we have some produce in the fridge we've got to use, but damn if those thai iced teas aren't the absolute jam. Paired with drunken noodles and thai donuts (which I hadn't heard of until now) it was a pretty good dinner. We finished rewatching gravity falls at the same time, which is brutal because we so recently had our initial watch of it- it's an addictive show that knows when to stop, but part of me wishes it hadn't. Short and sweet, as many of the best TV shows are.

Anyway, I should get back to work. I'm being lazy again. If anyone's reading this- take it easy. The most we can do is our best.
