2/2/22

it's pretty early in the morning here. I'll be getting to sleep soon, but I had an exciting few days so I'm letting myself go a little wild and browse the various phlogs I like to read for a bit before then.

Last night I had an event that resembled a seizure. I can't describe it exactly from an external point of view, since I wasn't conscious at the time, but apparently it was a little scary. I've told a couple of people about it now (aside from my S/O, who was with me at the time thankfully) but I wanted to share here.

It had been a pretty quiet day at the house. SO was out at work all day, and so I had just been working myself but otherwise taking it easy. A little youtube here and there, etc. Towards the end of the day, when SO had returned from work, we were watching some game of thrones together on the couch. I didn't watch it as it was coming out, except I watched the last episode. Sometimes I like to ruin things like that, don't ask me why.

We were midway through an episode when I start to feel a little funny. I do what any sensible human would do and try stretching my legs with a short walk to the restroom. About halfway through my visit it becomes more apparent that something is rather wrong, so I hastily wrap up and try to make it back to the couch.

I recall telling SO that I felt funny, as well as leaning over just as I'd entered the room. I do not recall being helped over to the couch, sitting down and saying that I felt nauseous. Following some blurred vision at the corner of the room, all that came next was the scream from SO which seemed to snap me out of it. Though as I've told this story a few times, the one overwhelming feeling I had while coming to was an odd feeling of comfort. Like waking up under the sheets on a cold day, it felt like I was already somewhere that I wanted to be, and didn't want to leave. It's kind of a scary thought, but I figure that's normal. I would go so far as to say it felt really nice before I realized what was going on.

After the scream things started coming back bit by bit. SO's face and words, the room and such. There was quite a bit of what sounded like static in my ears- not ringing, but distinctly static. I thought that was strange, maybe because in all the movies they use ringing because it seems a little more intense. Even as I was verging on full consciousness, a distinct static, more mid-heavy and random than ringing sat in my ears for a bit. It faded as did the rest of the sensations that had come with my episode.

There wasn't much to do after all of that. SO hadn't called an ambulance- they couldn't find their phone before I was back around. I basically felt fine afterwards, so no need for panic. I suppose if it happens again I'll likely go to the ER, though for now I've set up a doctor's appointment for about a week, so fingers crossed I make it til then. I've got a few hypotheses as to what caused the event, but at the moment eating 8 undercooked drumsticks is at the top of my list, so hopefully it will pass as those do (I know, I know- it wasn't my proudest moment).

Today we celebrated a good friends birthday. We played bloons tower defense 6 multiplayer and all hopped on discord together. They don't live nearby, so we couldn't see them in person unfortunately. They may visit sometime soon though, so we'll have to see. If you're reading this and it's your birthday too, happy birthday!

Long day of work tomorrow. I slept in earlier today because of my episode, so I'll have to explain that all to work tomorrow- and hope it doesn't happen again. Luckily, I work two jobs remotely, so I don't have to drive in. Still, though, if I'm mid session with somebody and I start seizing up again in the middle of it, that would be cause to lose a client. I'd feel bad if that happened I suppose. Fingers crossed anyway.
