i'm new to participating in the gopher ecosystem, but i've been reading others'
phlogs for a few months now. i only committed to digging my own gopher hole last
night after listening to aNONradio and getting mad that no one was talking in
the IRC chat, even though i'm still not super comfortable with IRC. i tried
using COM but needed to validate my account and at that point, i was about 2
commands away from my own site. now it's just a matter of actually using it.
i've made a variety of WWW websites over the years and always hated updating
them. any time i needed to make changes, i ended up just rewriting the whole
site from scratch. at least the process of this feels different enough that i
might not fall into despair at the idea of adding/removing things from here.
i've also not been great at journaling lately. there were 2 years where i did it
pretty regularly, but not so much any more. i think this will be a cool way to
re-enter that.

today, i didn't really do any work aside from a couple hours before a meeting.
it's going to be 'baby's first machine learning project', which is exciting, i'm
just dragging my feet on it because i'd rather be doing, well, stuff like this.
i'm also working on a tutorial for using ecasound as a replacement for the DAW.
i'm getting really sidetracked on making a great slideshow for that tutorial
though. right now i'm trying to decide how in-depth i want to go on audio
writing and stuff. i think the whole lot of PCM, sound devices, ALSA,
buffering/chunks, file writing, etc. are super interesting but i also don't want
to just be talking about unnecessary junk. i'm sure once i at least finish my
slideshow i'll be able to pare it down. side note: i'm using beamer and
vim-latex to make this presentation... is there any way to avoid insane
compilation times other than commenting out the slides i don't immediately need
to see? anyway, i also toured a house today. it was not great. i'm seeing a
couple more tomorrow.
