There are a number of reasons to plant native species in your
garden. Maybe you're like me and just enjoy bringing nature into
your life, but there are a number of more practical benefits for
using natives, as well:

No invasive potential: While not all exotic species have the
ability to become invasive, many invasive plant species, such as
garlic mustard, buckthorn, and honeysuckle started off as
introduced garden plants. Don't be the jerk who introduces a
noxious new weed into your neighborhood!

Lower maintenance: If a plant grows naturally in your area, you
know it will be well adapted to your growing conditions. This means
you won't have to coddle it through cold winters, less watering
during dry times of the year, and little to no need for fertilizer.

Wildlife habitat: Planting native species is a great way to attract
wild birds, butterflies, and other animals to your yard!
