!Garden produce, heat, mosquitoes --- agk's diary 25 July 2022 @ 16:30 UTC --- written on GPD Win 1 via puTTY & Unicomp keyboard on 6th floor of College of Nursing after SIM lab --- I eat chard, onions, mint, and juicy tomatoes with morning eggs. Our countertop's buried under cucumb- ers and yellow squash our daughter found under big squash leaves in my sponsor's garden. Crows didn't eat the corn this year. Sweat shines perpetually on our skin. Extraordinary abundance of beans await the pot. The summer children's free lunch program advertised on facebook and ran out two weeks ago. They didn't advertise on facebook but got more donations this week. We froze about 5 flats of blueberries and blackberries so far; ate about as many. To freeze fruit for smoothies and snacks ---------------------------------------- * Wash; spread on baking sheet, freeze. * You can dump each batch in a freezer bag once the surface of the berries is frozen hard. * This prevents clumping. To cool off ----------- * Sit in shade, feet in turtle-shaped thing that's supposed to be a sandbox but which you filled with water. Watch toddler hypnotically fill and dump a cup. * Drag box fan with extension cord outside for breeze. Splash or spritz with spraybottle of water to evaporative cool. * Drink seltzer, switchel (honey, dilute apple cider vinegar, pinch of salt), lemonade, sweet mint sun tea. Exclaim: Lord, it's hot. Enjoy the watermelon, don't worry the ants.
