72 - Farewell.

the crayons and pencils, and toys in a box
the bags, and the towels, a spare pair socks
the bus it's a-comin', go on don't be late
wherever you go to, I hope you'll be safe

and now, we are about done
for the summer, the summer is come
   fare well, fare well.

some of you will grow, and some will stay small
some will go far, some not at all
the labels they'll lend you can only be that
I hope they can learn to meet you where you're at

and now, we are about done
for the summer, the summer is come
   fare well, fare well.

some of you are beavers, and some of you are birds
are some of you are sea-stars, or buffalo herds
one day they may sort you, and that is a shame
but for the measure we had, I loved you all the same

and now, we are about done
for the summer, the summer is come
   fare well, fare well.

These words will not land, and that is okay
by the time you remember, I'll be on my way
