Nothing scientific, just a gut feeling, but I think Harris will win
the presidential election tomorrow, and that exit polls will show
overwhelming support from female voters. I think prior polls are
underestimating just how pissed off American women are about Roe v.
Wade being overturned. The sad reality is that some women have to
pretend to support Trump when in front of their husbands or friends,
so they have to keep their votes secret, and we won't know about the
effect of these votes until after the election.

I would like to be right, but of course if we wake up Wednesday
morning to a Trump presidency, the US (and by extension Canadians
and the rest of the world) are in for a rough time. We definitely
don't need 4+ more years of chaos.

I also expect Trump to claim victory even if he loses, to proceed
to file far too many baseless lawsuits, claim voter fraud, whip
his supporters into a frenzy and cheat at every turn (so basically
a repeat of 2020). Who knows where that will lead, especially if
Republicans keep a house majority. It could end up as a successful
coup, unlike the previous attempt on 1/6.

That said, Harris underwhelms me as a "more of the same" candidate,
who will do some good, but mostly cater to big business and continue
neoliberal economics-as-usual. She's vastly preferable to the Orange
Menace, but is not great for what the US really needs, which is
a Bernie Sanders-style candidate who can champion real economic,
regulatory and voting reforms. And even if Harris does win, she may
be hampered by Republican majorities in the house and/or senate.
Not that she would not be able enact some positive change through
executive orders, but those can always be reversed by the next
president or even an unfavorable court.

I'd love to see an election won on the merits of policy, rather than
which candidate is the least worst or which one pushes the right
emotional buttons. I don't think that will happen in my lifetime.
