Jirka talks about gmail killing their basic HTML interface [0] - I
did prefer that interface, both back when I used my own gmail
account, and when I worked for a company that used google apps. I
can confirm, it was much faster than the default interface.

Since I still have a google account for use with my android phone,
and I never use gmail anymore, I made my gmail address effectively
read-only by setting up a forward to my real email, and just filter
everything that comes in into a separate folder. That way I can at
least reply and tell whoever to use the new email.  Although that
hasn't happened in a long time.

And the upgrade treadmill is pretty frustrating when it comes to web
applications. Requiring a "newer" browser or even a specific one
(chrome/edge seems to be the choice of our corporate overlords here)
to support some bit of cargo-cult javascript that isn't necessary
anyway is annoying as hell.
