Every time I come to Busan, I am reminded of what a beautiful city
it is. Especially out on the waterfront, what with the sandy
beaches and misty islands and mountainous coastline stretching out
on either side. It is quite a different vibe frome where we live in
Incheon, which is also on the ocean, but it may as well not
be. There is not a lot of ocean access there. Incheon is built
around a massive industrial harbor, and the remaining coastline
there is muddy estuary (which is mostly barricaded off for
$REASONS). I have grown to love muddy tidal plains, but crashing
waves on a sandy beach is just so god damn inviting.

We got good and wet and sandy as soon as we arrived. We were not
really prepared for this, but we couldn't help ourselves. We didn't
properly swim, but we could not have. My kids really wanted to, but
the waves were unusually strong, and they are still learning to
swim afterall.

Right now the Busan International Film Festival is happening
here. We haven't really gotten to partake in any of the festivities
apart from wandering around the theatre district and poking around
in the exitbits and things there. The reason we came down here is
actually because my wife was going to attend a festival-related
get-together with some of ther friends, so me and the kids tagged
along.

It is not easy traveling all together, especially with a one
year-old. It has been fun, though, in spite of the challenge of
wrangling a toddler in crowds, restarauns, public transit, etc. We
head back tomorrow, then it's back to work! We have been kind of
daydreaming about how it might be living here, even temporarily. I
am hoping to secure a stable position at a university next year, so
we are kind of floating ideas around about how and where we would
like to live.
