I'm procrastinating at work, putting off looking into a problem. What
better time to get a quick phlog in?

Truth is, I'm having a bit of a problem concentrating, as the security
sensors are being replaced/updated/whatever in the office. It *is*
kind of difficult to keep focus while there's people clambering up
ladders, noisily running cables in the suspended ceiling etc. around
you.

I'm on schedule to complete Neuromancer this weekend, some 20-odd
years after I first read it. Count Zero is patiently waiting its
turn. I finished my commute read this week (Moby Dick) and now that
I've read it, I'm not sure what the White Whale afficionados chez
Sloum are going to make of the movie. Pretty difficult to get it all
into a two-hour film, but I don't think it's been butchered. New
commute read is 'Walden'. I'm only 20-or-so pages in, but this
extended rant on society and the economy etc. is starting to bore
me. I hope it's not all like this. Going to stick with it though - it
could be that I'll come to enjoy it.

Hoping to get another couple of phlogs knocked out this weekend
too. I've got a short piece to write about the Vaio P I've been using,
and a progress report on my lightsaber. Not been able to spend too
much time on that recently, but it's definitely coming on little by
little. Perversely, I'm actually quite enjoying the COBOL.

IRC has been a bit quiet the last week, but I managed a quick chat
with KatolaZ last night and was interested to hear about a vintage
linux server he's running. As I said then - reviving old systems is
pretty cool, what's even cooler is old systems that are still
running. Modest hardware paired with an efficient OS will still get
you pretty far. Here's to another 20 years!
