41 - Sometimes you just got to do a thing.

I don't know where my dad is getting all these
cruddy old cars from, but he sure is getting a lot
of them these days. And I do mean cruddy, because
they are super dirty. Even the engine compartment
is packed with dirt. Like, is he digging them out
of the ground or something? And he gets all cagey
when I try to ask where from he's getting
them. "Oh you know, I know a guy, and they find
'em, and ..." and then he kind of trails off.
Which is pretty weird for him, but whatever. And I
don't know what he's going to do with them all.
He collects, is all. Just a habit you make as
stuff's harder to get.

Anyways, they're all pretty decrepit so I doubt
I'll ever find a driver out of them. Which I'm
always on the lookout for. But they're useful for
one of my projects. I've been pulling light bulbs
and their housings out of those old cars, turn
signals, headlights, tail lights, side markers,
interior lamps, dash lamps, all that, whatever's
still working. I've been fastening them all to
these sections of metal fencing I found, and I
wire them all up to a battery. And there's this
guy in the corner unit near me, calls himself PJ,
and he knows about micro controllers. He says we
could use relays and program all these lights to
turn on and off in some pattern, and I like the
sound of that. And all this probably seems pretty
pointless I guess, just like collecting dirty old
cars. But sometimes you get this feeling like you
just got to do a thing, even if you aren't sure
why.
